Cross-CulT: Education for a Cross-Cultural Society Through Theatre

KEY ACTION 1 (KA1) PROJECT

YEAR: OCTOBER 2014 (8 DAYS TRAINING)

PLACE: ITALY

PARTNERS: ITALY, FRANCE, CYPRUS, PORTUGAL, TURKEY

PROJECT’S BRIEF SUMMARY & AIMS

The European society is more and more multicultural society. It’s an ongoing process from decades, which has seen both migrations inside Europe and from other countries.

As usual the phenomena of historical entities are accompanied by adjustment phases. Prejudice, racism and xenophobia are also caused by a lacking dissemination of knowledge and tools useful for the intercultural dialogue, which is necessary to realize a true integration between citizens of different cultures.

For this reason it is important that the training of young people in Europe includes, increasingly, the attention to this aspect, in order to contribute to achieve a more inclusive society capable of an intercultural dialogue.

The most important aspects on which work during the young people training are:

– the ability to recognise how arise prejudices, stereotypes, implicit constraints and how they weigh in our lives and the attitude with which we relate to people of other cultures;

– the procedures and paths to overcome prejudices and stereotypes;

– the ways and tools to create new forms of coexistence and intercultural dialogue. The methods by which easing these learning are key-aspects; In fact, it is important to have methodologies capable to:

– operate on the playful aspect;

– be able to include the emotional-body;

– change the deep beliefs, when those beliefs took us toward the prejudice, so consequently change the way we think and live our life.

The project will work on these issues through theatre.

Other methods we’ll use in the project are:

– intercultural education

– playful-pedagogy;

– autobiographical methodologies

– cultural anthropology
